This simple rustic console table is one of my favourite original furniture pieces.
The inspiration for this design came from a collection of DIY ideas that I’d come across over the past few years and needing a narrow table to fit in our hall next to the stairs.
I wanted to build something unique and inexpensive that looks like it’s been around for half a century.
The table is made of common spruce 2 x 4’s and 1 x 4 lumber commonly used for strapping. These materials are cheap, easy to find at any DIY building supply store and you can easily get them home in just about any vehicle.
The rustic look is achieved by using a wire brush technique for roughing up the texture and finishing the piece with a home-mixed weathering wash that gives it that unique weathered wood look.
The rough textured wood and rusty nails add a casual accent to almost any decor.
This easy to make table is perfect for a hall, living room or any space that needs a small functional accent.
